Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) can affect concentration, organisation, impulse control, and emotional regulation. For many children and adults, this can lead to difficulties at work, in education, at home, and in relationships. At ITT, our experienced clinicians provide structured ADHD counselling support to help you better understand your strengths and challenges, put in place practical tools, and feel more in control of day-to-day life. Sessions are available face-to-face or remotely, designed to fit flexibly around your routine.
Important: Before booking ongoing ADHD counselling or support, please book an initial ADHD assessment or consultation with our clinicians to discuss your symptoms, clarify your needs, and agree the most appropriate treatment plan.
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects how the brain manages focus, attention, activity levels, and impulse control. It is not caused by laziness or lack of effort, and many people with ADHD are highly creative, energetic, and resourceful. However, without the right support, ADHD can make everyday tasks feel overwhelming, leading to frustration, self-criticism, or low confidence.
ADHD can present differently from person to person. Some people are primarily inattentive (struggling to focus or stay organised), others are more hyperactive or impulsive, and many experience a mixture of both. Our role is to help you understand how ADHD affects you personally, and support you in developing strategies to manage its impact.
Our ADHD counselling service can support a wide range of challenges, including:
Your ADHD journey with us begins with an initial assessment, where we explore your current difficulties, developmental history, and how symptoms affect your daily life. We use structured questions and screening tools to build a clear picture and, where appropriate, may recommend further diagnostic assessment or liaison with your GP.
Following assessment, counselling focuses on practical, real-world strategies. This may include understanding your ADHD profile, developing routines that work for you, learning tools for emotional regulation, and building self-confidence. We draw on approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), ADHD coaching techniques, and skills-based interventions to help you make sustainable changes.
ADHD counselling at IGP Talking Therapies is delivered by experienced clinicians with a special interest in neurodevelopmental conditions.
The first step is often acknowledging that things feel harder than they should and allowing yourself to ask for help. During your initial ADHD appointment, your therapist will invite you to talk about what you are finding challenging, where you feel stuck, and what you would like to be different.
Together, you will explore patterns in your day-to-day life – for example, how you manage work, study, relationships, or home responsibilities. Some people find it useful to focus on practical difficulties such as organisation or time management, while others may start with the emotional impact, including stress, anxiety, or low self-esteem.
Your therapist will help you identify strengths as well as struggles and will work with you to break down bigger challenges into manageable steps. Between sessions, you may be invited to try out small changes or strategies in real life, and then reflect on what did or did not help.
Over time, sessions aim to reduce shame and self-criticism, increase understanding of ADHD, and give you a toolkit of personalised strategies to support focus, motivation, and wellbeing.
ADHD counselling can be highly beneficial, but it is not a “quick fix”. Progress can take time and requires an open and collaborative approach. Some people may also benefit from medical input, such as a formal diagnosis or consideration of medication, alongside therapy.
Our clinicians will always be honest about what we can offer and may recommend other services if we feel they would be more appropriate or provide additional support.
It is important to be aware that:

At ITT, ADHD assessment and counselling are delivered by experienced clinicians who will tailor your sessions to your individual needs and goals. Therapy can take place face-to-face, via video, or over the phone, offering flexibility and choice. Most people attend between 6 and 20 sessions, each lasting around 50 minutes. While the focus is on your current challenges, your therapist may also explore how past experiences have shaped the way you think, feel, and respond today.
Therapy is a collaborative process. You and your therapist will work together to identify your goals – whether that is feeling less overwhelmed, improving organisation, managing emotions, or building confidence. Each session has a clear structure and purpose, ensuring your time is used productively and meaningfully. Your therapist will guide you through a range of techniques to help you build self-awareness, skills, and resilience.
The real benefits of ADHD support come from applying what you learn in everyday life. Between sessions, your therapist may suggest simple exercises, strategies, or reflections to help you test out new approaches to organisation, focus, or communication. These activities are designed to be achievable and encouraging, supporting steady, sustainable progress. Towards the end of therapy, you will work together on a plan to help you maintain progress and continue using your strategies independently.
We believe therapy should fit around your life. ITT offers flexible options for accessing ADHD support, whether you prefer in-person clinic sessions, secure video appointments, or a combination of both. Current research, and our own experience, suggest that there is no significant difference in outcome between attending in person or online. The choice is yours, so that therapy can fit alongside your commitments and energy levels.
Our focus is on helping you feel supported, understood, and equipped to make positive, lasting change. If you would like to book an appointment, find out more about ADHD, or discuss whether our service is right for you, please contact our team.
Opening up about attention, organisation, or emotional challenges can feel daunting, particularly if you have spent years feeling misunderstood or judged. Our counsellors offer a supportive, non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about whatever you are facing. Sessions are fully confidential, giving you the freedom to explore your experiences at your own pace. Together, you and your counsellor will look at the emotional, psychological, and practical factors involved and work towards realistic, compassionate strategies to help you move forward with greater clarity, confidence, and wellbeing.
If you cancel your appointment 24 hours before it starts, then you will receive a full refund. However, if you cancel your appointment within the 24 hour period before the appointment is due, then you will be liable to pay the cost of the consultation. If you do need to reschedule, please contact us as soon as possible.
